Blood Orange - Citrus sinensis - Italy

Origin: Italy

Extraction: Cold pressing of peel

Colour: Dark orange to almost red

Aroma: Sweet typical of orange but slightly more tangy, heavier aroma

Shelf Life : Considered an essence. Mostly monoterpenes. Shelf life about 1-1/2 years. Oxidized oil not suitable for topical solutions but still may be effective for deodorizing, disinfecting, pest control etc.

Limonene, Myrcene, A-Pinene, Decanal, Sabinene, Octanal

Cautions / Safety Data

Do not use when exposed to the sun as photosensitization can occur. May irritate skin. Do not use on the skin full strength. Always dilute in appropriate carriers before use.  Not for internal use.  If pregnant or suffering from serious medical conditions, consult a qualified health professional, experienced in the use of essential oils.

Blending Tips

Rarely should be blended by itself as the aroma will oxidize quickly. Addition of heavier note oils such as benzoin, lemongrass, petitgrain or patchouli will help hold aroma down. In perfumery, it is often used in place of sweet orange due to having a more robust aroma and blended with other citrus oils to create uplifting scents.

Other Uses and Information

Useful in deodorizing rooms and cleaning products. When mixed with borax, it is very useful in laundry detergent and to rid carpets of fleas and other insects.  An effective use for oil that has aged or oxidized and no longer suitable to apply to the skin.
